Events

9:00am – 12:00pm in the St. Anne Rm of the Holy Family Hall

Parishioners of all ages, including families with younger children, are welcome to participate in this awesome day of community service. We have enjoyed working together in the past and encourage you to join us for a great opportunity to be Christ to others.

Our projects this year support several parish Christian service outreach programs:

• We will be sorting and packing personal hygiene products for the “Fall Blessing Bags”
• Putting together sani-pad kits for young ladies in Africa
• Make 100 sandwiches for Franciscan Ministries
• Decorate lunch bags for our lunch ministries
• Making “plarn” from plastic bags to be crocheted into mats for the homeless
• Make fleece lap blankets for local nursing homes.

We will also be preparing the parish gardens for fall. We will be raking leaves, pulling out annuals, digging out weeds and invasive plants, and more. Be sure to bring garden gloves, rakes, trowels, shovels, brooms, paper lawn waste bags, or trash cans on wheels. You do not have to be a gardener or have a green thumb, just the desire to work in the fresh air and help.

Monday, October 26 from 6:15 – 11:00 am

We provide four volunteers to prepare and serve soup to more than 100 men, women and children. We meet outside Holy Family Hall, transportation is provided. Call Joyce McCabe, 313-506-6154, to volunteer to help.  Monetary donations will help the group buy fresh fruit and donations of paper towels and laundry detergent are also appreciated. 

The Bridge House Campus, part of the Pope Francis Center is where we will volunteer and work with the Meal Team to help prepare, serve and clean up lunch alongside their talented chef on the 3^rd Thursday and the 4^th Tuesday of each month. A Meal Team of four will cover the lunch shift from 11:00 am-1:30 pm. We meet outside the Cabrini Parish Office on the designated day at 10:30 to carpool to the Center. Lunches will be delivered on October 28, 29, and 30. Monetary donations will help defray the costs of bread, lunch meat and cheese. Donations can be dropped off at the Parish Office. 

We also cook and serve a hot meal the third Wednesday of each month from 10:00am – 1:30 pm at the ChristNet Drop-in Center in Taylor. If you would like to assist call Ann Raiche at (313)433-9776. Our next service date is Wednesday, October 21!

Held at St. Alfred Church in Spanish and St. Frances Cabrini Church in English

Our parish communities walk the valley of grief with all who are mourning the loss of a loved one, especially during November, which the Church sets aside to remember the “saints and souls” in our lives who have died.

We’ll hold our annual All Souls Day Mass on Monday, November 2, at 7:00 pm and we are extending an invitation to all parishioners to participate, especially those who have lost a loved one this past year – whether or not they were buried from St. Alfred, St. Constance, St. Mary Magdalen or St. Frances Cabrini.

If you plan to attend, please bring a framed photo of your loved one to church that night.  Family representatives will carry the photos and a memorial candle into church as part of the opening procession, and the photos will remain on display throughout the month. Please put your name and contact information on the back of the picture and plan to pick it up on December 1 in the Parish Office.

Tuesday, November 10 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help cook and serve the more than 200 men, women and children who depend on St. Christine’s for a hot meal. If you would like to join us on this day, please call or text Jeannine Little at (313) 268-5181 or email jandjlittle@hotmail.com. The group will meet in the Parish Office at 8:30 a.m. to carpool to St. Christine’s and return around 3:00 p.m. 

Donations of juice boxes and individually wrapped desserts are needed for the children’s bagged meal and monetary donations are always needed to help off-set the cost of the food served on this day. We also provide desserts to complement the meal. These special diners really enjoy brownies, cakes, pie, cheesecake, and cupcakes.

If you would like to donate homemade or store-bought baked goods, please drop them off to the Parish Office by Monday, November 9 no later than 1:00 pm.

The Card Ministry meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.  The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10 at 12:00 noon in the St. John Paul ll Room.  No experience required. Everyone is welcome to join in for fellowship and faith to prepare cards to send out.

What an honor it is for our parish to be named for St. Frances Cabrini, who devoted her life to caring for children and immigrants!

Mother Cabrini’s feast day is Friday, Nov. 13, and to mark the occasion, the Hospitality Committee will be serving coffee/tea and pastries in the St. Anne Room of Holy Family Hall after the 8:30 a.m. Mass that day.

Our patron saint has influenced our parish ministries of education and social services since our founding in 1947 – with grateful hearts, we invite you to join us for Mass and fellowship that morning.

When you are grieving a loved one’s death, the holiday season can be especially painful. Our Surviving the Holidays seminar helps participants discover:

• Helpful tips for surviving social events

It’s time to make plans for Advent by Candlelight. This will be a peaceful, spiritual evening together with friends, to step back from the busy holiday season and take pause to reflect on what the coming of Jesus into the world really means.

The evening will include prayer, an Advent reflection by Agnes Ward, PhD, seasonal music, and an elegant atmosphere, lit by candlelight, where guests will enjoy friendship, desserts and the spirits of the season!

All are invited…. Become a HOSTESS and invite 7 guests to join you at your table. The hostess will supply a dessert for eight people and a centerpiece that includes either an advent wreath or a candle. The host will also supply any plates, cups, eating and serving utensils, tablecloth, napkins, etc. whatever you would like to creatively decorate your table, anything from the Dollar store to Grandma’s fine China. It will be your choice. If you would like to host a table, please email Cheryl Kuzuh at ckozuh57@yahoo.com. Written instructions will be given to you. If you are coming by yourself or with a friend that’s fine as well, we will seat you with others that have room at their table or at one of the tables hosted by the Parish.

The parish will supply for all tables tea bags, coffee, hot water, cream, sugar, sugar substitute, honey, and a pitcher of water for your table.

Doors open at 6:30 pm and the program begins at 6:45 pm

A donation of a $10 gift card from Meijer, Target, Kroger, or Walmart is suggested which will be used by our Christian Service as requested by those in need.
