The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Catholic organization whose members seek to grow spiritually by serving neighbors experiencing poverty, hardship, and uncertainty. Inspired by the Gospel, Vincentians recognize the face of Christ in every person they encounter and respond with compassion, dignity, prayer, and practical assistance.
As the accompanying image illustrates, the Society’s mission reaches into many areas of need. Its works include disaster relief, thrift stores, financial assistance for immediate needs, evangelization, advocacy, eldercare, food pantries, prison ministry, housing assistance, immigration services, and partnerships with churches and community agencies. Through “twinning,” conferences may also support and share resources with other Vincentian communities in need.
At the center of all these efforts is the home visit. During a home visit, Vincentians meet personally with individuals and families, listen to their stories, learn about their circumstances, pray with them, and determine how the Society may be able to help. This personal encounter is what makes the ministry of St. Vincent de Paul so special—it is not simply about providing assistance, but about offering friendship, hope, and the loving presence of Christ.
Here at St. Frances Cabrini, our own St. Vincent de Paul Society carries out this sacred mission within our local community. Through the generosity of our parishioners and the dedication of its members, the Society helps neighbors facing financial hardship, food insecurity, housing concerns, unexpected emergencies, and other difficult circumstances.
Our Cabrini conference is currently seeking two to four volunteers to help continue this important work. No special experience is necessary—only a compassionate heart, a willingness to listen, and a desire to place your faith into action.
